Weekly Thrifting

I brake for flea markets and yard sales.  Seriously.  If you ever are driving behind a yellow jeep beware, I will slam on my brakes for any sign that insinuates a sale may be near.  It's a disease.

Lately I've been having so much fun visiting all of my old favorite flea markets and antique stores with my mom and on my own, as well as finding so many new ones.  If you're in the market for old stuff, Missouri is the place to be!  Here's a few of the things I picked up this week...

*I am completely obsessed with colorful Bakelite kitchen containers.  I'm trying to decide if these are going to go in my etsy shop or my future kitchen!  Also see the fabric behind?  I scored on these pretty 3 panel flower power curtains, they're going to look so pretty in my room!

* Remember my birthday goal of starting a new collection?  Well I think that vintage thermoses have officially become one of my new ones, they're all SO pretty! I found these three little guys at various flea markets in the same day...kismet?

* I think these little crossstitched pictures are so sweet, and I couldn't pass up this pretty flower tin tray.  It's going to be a perfect place to throw my keys.

*I have been looking for a vintage drink cart from the 50's for ages when I stumbled upon this one.  It needs a little work, but with a little paint and a little WD-40 it's going to be SUCH a great piece.

*The one that got away.... I spotted this tin top desk at the STD flea market (I know, ridic name right?)  but the price wasn't perfect.  I'm really pondering going back and trying to haggle again though, it's too great.

What haven't y'all been finding lately? xoxo Fearsy

For the love of....bees

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

 I've been on a bit of an insect kick lately, and I couldn't NOT do a post on my favorite little guy of all, the honeybee.  I'm pretty sure this love started sometime during the casting of my kindergarten play "Going Buggy" when I spotted the bumblebee costumes.  (Sequins and vertical stripes will get me every time.) My pops has been beekeeping for the past couple of years (these are his hives in the photos above,) and I've been visiting them on a pretty regular basis. There's NOTHING like local honey!

In honor of my favorite little bug, check out a few of my favorite bee-related things!

*Rebekah of Dear, Friend has been posting some beautiful photos of her home (I want to move in Rebekah!) and this stamped wall might be my favorite element.
The English Stamp Co.
* This dress from Asos is so cute!  I'm pretty sure my closet need it.

*I think this may be the greatest idea for a bee tattoo ever.
*This song from Zee Avi always makes me happy.

These bee prints deserve a place on my wall.
The Black Apple
The Paper Ship
* I am digging the hive pattern on this quilt.

*Oh that Elsie, always doing the cutest stuff like this honey themed baby shower.

Tattoos by Noon

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Lately I've been noticing a trend in many of my favorite tattoos and artists.  They tend to be bold and abstract with a touch of whimsy, and the tattoos of Noon Kamikaz are just that.  Based in Troyes, France, these tattoos mix patterns, line drawings, and shading in a truly beautiful way that I am COMPLETELY obsessed with.  There are not words enough to describe how bad I want this man to tattoo me.  Giving up chocolate kind of bad.  (Note: All images are courtesy of Noon Tattoos at Boucherie Traditionnelle, do yourselves a favor and check out the HUNDREDS of beautiful tattoos in his gallery!)

Being Domestic: Potato Chip Sugar Cookies

Monday, August 27, 2012

I have discovered something about myself recently.  Not only do I spend far too much time on Pinterest, but I have noticed a trend on my boards, specifically my food board.  I suffer from what I like to call "Paula Deen-itis."  I literally only pin/crave/demand comfort foods.  Your salads, smoothies, Weight Watchers recipes that always claim are sooo good until you realized that you are only allowed a literal forkful.... I sneer at you.  Twice baked Parmesan spaghetti? Oh...that sounds good. 5 cheese potato soup?  Yes, please. Mississippi Sin Dip? I will swim in a vat of you..... you get the picture.

Unfortunately for my waistline, with all of the extra free-time (i.e. being jobless/on the hunt for something new,) I've had the opportunity to create many of these delectable dishes for myself and family.  (Luckily, they all eat pretty healthy, so I've tried to keep the deep fried wonderful-ness to a minimum) but I simply couldn't pass up these cookies.  I've never been much of a sweets person, (give me a french fry any day) but I love the act and smells of baking.  Then, with a little help from {interest and my homegirl Martha, I found potato-chip cookies.  A way to satisfy every facet?  I'm in!  Here's what you'll need...

Martha Stewart's Potato Chip Sugar Cookies

* 2 sticks softened unsalted butter (oh haiiii there Paula. Knew you'd love these.)
* 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
*3/4 cup granulated sugar
* 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
* 2 large eggs
* 2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
*1 tsp baking soda
* 3/4 tsp coarse salt
* 4 cups coarsely crushed potato chips divided

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat together butter and sugars with a mixer on high until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs and beat on medium until combined.

2. Add flour, baking soda, and salt and beat on low until combined.  Stir in two cups of potato chips.

3. Roll dough into 2 inch balls then roll in remaining potato chips to lightly coat.  Place cookies two inches apart on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  Bake 18-20 minutes until golden.  Let completely cool.

YUM right?!  These little guys were a hit with the family and friends for sure!  (Personally I almost made myself sick licking the bowl.  I'm essentially a child.)  What are your favorite comfort foods?  xoxo Fearsy

August Birchbox Review

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

It's that time of year again, back to school for all of the kiddies and adults alike!  Naturally, Birchbox followed in theme with their "Beauty School Supply Kit."  I've been on the fence about my Birchbox experience since I started receiving them, and this box hasn't really changed that thus far.  While there were definitely some great items, (and I give it an A+ for packaging! Very clever...see below) the overall box left me kinda...meh.  Some good and some bad, per usual.  Check out my product review below.
Schick Hydro Silk Razor // While this came at the perfect time, (I have yet to find most of my stuff from the move,) what makes me excited about my Birchbox is receiving things that I hadn't or maybe wouldn't try.  Razors just weren't as exciting as a new lipgloss.  Naturally when testing the razor out I dropped it in my sleepy haze and probably spent a good 5 min in the shower trying to figure out how to reattach the razor to the handle.  I know.  I will however give it props for the very smooth shave it gave me.
Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy La Fleur Perfume // I am really loving all of the different perfume samples that Birchbox has been sending lately.  I am a person who loves smelling pretty, but generally am too cheap to purchase new ones.  (I've had the same bottle of Gucci II forEVER.)  This perfume smells lovely and isn't too strong, which is perfect for this girl.  Definitely a fan.
Caldrea Ginger Pomelo Hand Soap // I wasn't a huge fan of the hand soap because I'm not a big ginger person, but it did leave my hands feeling not dried out, which I suppose is good...but I'll probably just stick with dial.  Meh.
Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream // I'm always a fan of multipurpose moisturizers (hands, lips, weenus, etc.)  and the whole "Japanese mountain climbers climbing Everest is something that would immediately make me say, yes please.  I like that it leaves your skin/lips feeling nice and moisturized without feeling greasy, but be careful to apply it sparsely!  I looked like I had clown lips on my first application.  Unfortunately at 16 bucks a pop, I probably won't be ordering this anytime soon.
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner // I think I've said it before, but I freaking love Stila products, this eyeliner being no different.  As someone who won't leave the house without at least a bit of eyeliner, I'm something of an aficionado.  This eyeliner totally sticks throughout the day and I really liked how to the tiny little flecks of silver accentuated my eyes.  I haven't checked the waterproof-ness (is that a word?) but I bet it'll stick with the best of them!

Tattoosday: Insects

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

There's something that I find so lovely and amazing about insects.  I've always been a big fan of the beautiful insect classification boards you see in museums and science centers, and lately I've been running across some pretty amazing insect tattoos.  I could have posted dozens of different amazing tattoos, but these were are few of my favorites. (These aren't your old-school butterfly lower back tattoos....)
